Automotive welding for structural and body repairs

Corrosion and damage can affect many areas of a vehicle, particularly as it gets older.

We carry out welding repairs to suitable structural and body sections including sills, floor sections, arches, brackets, mounts and other affected areas.

The first step is to expose and assess the damaged metal properly. Where corrosion is present, weakened material needs to be removed back to sound metal before a suitable repair section can be fitted or fabricated.

Depending on the job, the repair may involve a replacement panel, a locally fabricated section or reconstruction of a damaged mounting or structural area.

Corrosion Repairs

Welding rust-damaged areas properly

Rust can spread much further than the small area visible on the surface.

Once paint, underseal or trim is removed, it is common to find that corrosion extends into surrounding metal or into a second layer behind the visible panel.

Rather than welding over weak material, we aim to remove the affected section and rebuild it using sound metal.

This is particularly important around structural areas, suspension or seat-belt mounting points, sills and floor sections where the strength of the repair matters as much as its appearance.

Where required, welding can form part of a wider car body repair or accident-repair job.

Fabricated Repairs

Replacement sections made when panels are unavailable

Not every vehicle has an off-the-shelf repair panel available.

Where a suitable replacement cannot be sourced, we can fabricate sections to reproduce the shape and function of the original area.

This can include simple repair patches as well as more involved brackets, edges, returns and shaped sections.

The repair method depends on the location, material, access and structural requirements of the vehicle rather than applying the same approach to every job.

Assessment & Repair

From welding repair to refinishing

Welding is often only one stage of a larger repair.

Once the damaged metal has been repaired, the area may need further shaping, corrosion protection, priming and refinishing before the vehicle is complete.

Because White's also carries out bodywork and paint, suitable jobs can remain within the same workshop from the initial assessment through to the finished repair.

If your vehicle is a classic or restoration project, see our dedicated classic car welding service, which is specifically focused on older vehicles, restoration metalwork and historic repairs.

Yes. Where corrosion or structural deterioration has resulted in an MOT failure or advisory, we can assess the affected area and advise whether a suitable repair can be carried out.
Yes. The corroded section needs to be exposed properly so the extent of the damage can be assessed. Weak metal is removed before a suitable repair section is fitted or fabricated.
Yes. Floor sections can often be repaired where corrosion has affected the original metal. The repair needs to extend back to sound material and may involve surrounding structural sections depending on the vehicle.
Yes. We undertake welding and corrosion repairs on vans, including structural and body sections where suitable.
We undertake suitable motorcycle welding and frame-related repairs. Where alignment is involved, see our dedicated motorcycle frame straightening service.
Yes. We can fabricate many repair sections where an off-the-shelf panel is unavailable or unsuitable.
Often, yes. The earlier repair may need to be removed so the condition of the surrounding metal can be assessed before a new repair is carried out.
Yes. Where required, we can complete the repair through body preparation, priming and paint rather than supplying welding alone.
Cost depends on access, the extent of the corrosion or damage and whether repair sections need to be fabricated. Photographs can help with an initial assessment, but some areas need to be inspected in person before the full extent of the work is known.
